NCIL Advocacy Award to David Correia

September 30, 2019 Sue Rorke
Join us in congratulating MWCIL Advocacy Director, David Correia, as the recipient of the 2019 Regional Advocacy Award for Region I from the National Council on Independent Living (NCIL).  The award was announced in Washington in July at the national conference, and he received it last week at the Statewide Independent Living Conference.  Region I consists of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont.

Even before David’s promotion to his current position as Advocacy Director, David was active and passionate about disability rights.  He educates law makers in Washington and Boston on disability issues.  He also works with local ADA issues, and files and follows AAB (Architectural Access Board) complaints.

David’s most recent project is working to get the MA AAB rules in compliance with the federal ADA laws.  His tireless efforts have gotten us closer to having this very important legislation passed.

The Regional Advocacy Awards “recognize individuals or groups/organizations within each region for outstanding systems advocacy efforts consistent with independent living goals and philosophy at a national, state, or local level.”  David deserves this award!
